The lives of others

We have become regulars at the laemmle playhouse in Pasadena. We were both anxious to see the Oscar winner and made it a point to see it last Tuesday.

The film surpassed our expectations and its Oscar reputation. An elderly couple besides us were the mere audience ( so much for quality cinema ). Anyway , the film is a must see and now having seen "Water" and "The lives of others" , I could see why the jury decided likewise.

I have muddled memories of the German wall going down in 1987 and remember my grandparents and parents talking about it.

The film also reminds me of the recent phone-line tapping scandal in the US. Considering what happens or what use to happen in communist or dictated countries , arguably current scandal is not a scandal.

Everybody is entitled to their right of privacy and the NSA to its duty. There is nothing that can be done about it.

On a similar note , its so easy to forget that our best online friends , the googles , the yahoos are watching us all the time. I was pondering whether they fit into the definition of voyeur "persistent observer of misery or scandal". Only if we can consider our lives miserable and scandalous !

Saturday Morning : we hiked the coldwater canyon park in Beverly hills . Easy hike 4 miles round trip

Evening : Saw Mira Nayar's Namesake at Laemmle PlayHouse in Pasadena
I loved the movie and thought it was awesome.

15 April 2007 Sunday: We drove to Laguna Beach city , 50 miles from Azusa .
We walked the beach . It was a bit chilly but the sun was out , so it was good. We walked the beach and then the streets lined with most flamboyant art selling shops I have ever seen.

Not Recommended : Jackson Hewitt Tax Prep Services

I would not recommend Jackson Hewitt Tax Prep Services (Azusa branch ) to anybody.
The people were pleasant but lacked expertise. Anyway, taxes are done and we sure feel relieved.
